CC VS BB CREAM REVIEW

Ok so quite a couple of people have asked me particularly on CC cream, BB cream and Tony Moly. So here's me giving a very personal and unprofessional review on them. Before you proceed please note that is probably one of the rare times I'm posting pictures of myself bare-faced. I assume most of you blog readers aka friends are female so it's fine please don't spread them or I'm never getting married haha. And dont judge my bad complexion I'm doing this for you guys HAHA

Here goes:

The CC cream I'm using is the Tony Moly Luminous Pure Aura CC Cream and the BB cream is Tonly Moly Luminous Goddess Pure Aura BB Cream. Kinda bought them as a set in Japan.

  1. Coverage: BB cream in general provides a much better coverage as compared to CC cream which is much more liquid in nature. So if you have a couple of pimples and blemishes that are rather visible the CC cream will not be able to provide the coverage. The CC cream I would think is meant for people with a rather good complexion already and want the natural make-up look.
  2. Tone: The CC cream blends much better so it doesn't make your face look white which the BB cream does; especially when you're blacker like me. This is mainly due to the more liquid form of CC cream
  3. Moisture: The CC cream provides more "moisture". I dont think it actually has any moisturizing effects but due to its more liquid nature it feels more moisturizing on the face. I used this mainly in Japan because I had rather good complexion but the dryness was killing me and when I used just my compact powder my dry skin patches on my face looked horrible. Which was the main reason why I went to Shinokubo to hunt for korean brand BB/CC cream cause I'm not a fan of Japanese facial products.

Here are some horribly taken pictures...I put my hand against my face as a mode of comparison but my face seems much redder and whiter than my hand HAHA fail. Anyway you can notice from my original bad skin the BB cream gives it a much smoother image whilst the CC cream still looks a bit blotchy.

Application of CC/BB cream: I always use my fingers to spread it evenly across the face. Make sure your hands are clean!! Also make sure you cover your entire face till the sides and neck so you dont have an uneven skin tone. I usually use 2 layers: CC/BB cream followed by the foundation powder. I feel that it gives a more correct skin colour as my compact powder matches my skin tone correctly. Pictures on the right show CC/BB cream + powder.

Lastly, since unlike my boyfriend I am not paid to advertise for Tony Moly, the BB cream from Faceshop gives a much better coverage than the one at Tony Moly. BUT that also means that it is thicker so it is advisable not to leave it on for too long and ensure that you exercise good makeup removal procedure; long term usage does give rise to acne because it doesnt allow your skin to breathe.

Last but not least my personal recommendation; to stay away from BB/CC cream altogether and go for the liquid foundation/concealer altogether; my favourite brand is still Clinique. Ie my pictures with Shane are all with the below + compact powder.

If you are curious to how BB cream came about; (I hope I am correct here) it was recommended for koreans post plastic surgery to conceal their scars and speed up the healing process. Dont think anyone of us here faces that? Also note the climate difference between Singapore and Korea. (and good genetics for facial on the korean side) What looks good and works on your idol may not do the same for you. Last secret; when some of them with perfect complexion say they use nothing but water on their face; its the truth. ;-)

Hope this has been useful; Phoebe Feehily signing off now ciao!
