KOREA 2014: DAY 12 ~ SEOUL: NIT Coffee, Woollim Ent, Ewha-Sinchon-Hongdae, Hello Kitty Cafe, Kyochon
28 OCT 2014
Newly opened just this year, we decided to pay the Woollim NIT Cafe (along with their new office building) a visit. Travelling from our place to destination was rather easy; we had a direct bus. But as per all woos of a tourist, navigation was never an easy feat but we got lucky (and we had our trusty google map once again)
We factored in time for "getting lost" so we ended up being at the cafe way too early at 9am when it opens at 10....and so breakfast at the convenience store it was....
Cup noodles!
I like how they always have tables and chairs within the store much like they do in Japan and Taiwan; which made it nice for people like us to have a place to sit and relax and mostly keep warm.
Going back to the cafe when it opened; there were a couple of other Japanese (evidently) fangirls. I ordered my cuppa coffee and chillaxed with KH ;-) She was very much into the concept of the cafe, thinking of implementing it into her own hehe....Btw, they had the cutest Wifi names and the guy at the counter was cute. =)
What really weirded me out was....the toilet. It is situated on the second floor at the stairway and its just...one unit. It's a unisex toilet and when you enter you see the sink, a urinal and a cubicle. Note you can't exactly lock the entire unit so...I could be peeing in the cubicle while there's a guy outside on the urinal or better still maybe I'll walk in on someone from Woollim peeing.
And a momento photo at the entrance of the new building after (note it was so cold I had to have my gloves on but I was only wearing micro mini shorts with leggings so yes...lower regions were frozen)
Next stop: the hip Ewha University!
I could see why it was a hot tourist photo spots with it's beautiful landscape
The streets are also what you could label as a typical teenager shopping paradise; ideal for the residences of its area considering that it was a university hub. Me and KH managed to pick up a couple of cosmetics but the clothing line did not appeal to us.
As lunchtime approached, we decided to keep an eye out for a BBQ place; something we hadn't had the chance to enjoy in Korea as of yet. We were lucky enough to chance upon a tourist booth and there was a young guy inside mending the counter. He spoke really good English, figured he was a university student working there part-time but what he did next made me want to walk all the way back there to give him a kiss.
He recommended this place to us:
I asked him where we could find a good beef BBQ place; pork and chicken were the norm but us being the atas people we were; we wanted beef. Lo and behold when we opened up the menu; it was a PURELY beef place where all the different grades and cuts were served.
The place itself was catered mostly for the locals and frequent customers. Heading to the second level, there was already a long line of customers seated. The lady in charge was thankfully another English-speaking personnel and so we managed to figure out that we were supposed to write our name down on the waiting list and wait to be called. It was a weekday lunch hour and a bulk of customers were old folks. They were really cute; I was seated on the bench and even though I wanted to get up and let them have more space they told me that it was fine and that we could all just share it. (yes in Korean but their gestures and smiles were understandable)
It was fortunate that we didn't have to wait long; maybe a maximum of 20minutes? Perhaps it was because it was just 2 of us. She didn't call our name but I figured she assumed the only ABC written one was us haha.
This was the beef we ordered:
It was simply delicious and I believe my happy face below speaks a thousand words. The sauce was simply perfection.
I was probably a bit over the top with my uncontrolled moans of orgasmic pleasure and that triggered a conversation from the group of old ladies at our next table (they were having bowls of noodles). They asked us if it was tasty to which I answered yes - masshisseoyo (which is basically maybe the only korean word I knew) They were cute enough to try and continue the conversation but neither of our korean extended beyond single words so we managed to kinda say that we were non-korean speaking tourists. They thought we were students here haha; cute. They were so polite to tell us to enjoy our meal when they left as well. I really like the old people =)
After a more than fulfilling lunch; the hunt for my "This is Love" album began. We hunted for the Synnara branch like crazy and when we finally got there with the help of a few very kind and helpful people, they didn't have the covers I wanted =(
Giving up, we decided to head our next destination; the Hello Kitty cafe back nearer to where our hotel was. On our nice walk back, we chanced upon a bookstore and decided to check if they had CDs inside and luck was apparently on my side with them stocking up a single copy of each individual cover of the new Super Junior album! So here we have a Kyuhyun for HM, Sungmin for Fiqah, and since I couldn't decide between Eunhae, I was 'lucky' Gina told me she wanted Eunhyuk, leaving me with no choice but to own a Donghae one haha. Fate....
Now it leaves me to gush about something I love more than anything else in the world; HELLO KITTY! Trust me I was an embarrassing excited kid when I saw the big pink building
The entire building is just made for loads of photo opportunities ranging from the furniture to the decoration and the big doll on display on the second level. The drinks and food made for good photo as well but I thought the taste was very average and it was rather pricey. Merchandise range is a bit limited as well with a bulk being the same as what we had at Kitty Island but much less (so I was glad I bought my doll) However I did make an additional purchase here as well (at expense of KH, I was cash broke by the last two days and I had to live off my kind friend haha)
After chilling out at the cafe enough (god how many cafes have we visited here in Korea?), we headed back to our hotel for a rest and defrost before we set out for our late dinner.
Googling, we decided we wanted KyoChon Chicken and despite the thought that it could be easily found within Seoul, we actually had to hunt quite a bit for it with it's change in location as well; see below the usage of a map, limited data left on our phones and loads of asking around.
Although we were both on the verge of dying with impending sorethroats; it was our last night in Seoul so as per madtown's song; "YOLO"
A more than filling dinner of friend chicken ended off our last night in Seoul as we retreated into bed to make sure we had enough energy to last our final day tomorrow.
